On 9 May, we held our workshop at the 34th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition 2026 (EUBCE) in collaboration with the EU projects SUNFUSION and SUSTEPS. The workshop focused on industry, market and policy perspectives for advanced biofuels. Following an overview of the projects, there was a presentation on the industrial perspective on biofuels and carbon-neutral fuels, as well as on the social acceptance of these energy carriers. This was followed by a roundtable session with a panel of experts, during which we discussed how industry drivers can lead to policy actions.

Our experts and innovators:
• Dr. Kyriakos Maniatis, formerly of the European Commission (DG Energy)
• Dr. Matteo Prussi, Politecnico di Torino (DENERG)
• Dr. Martijn Vis, BTG Biomass Technology Group BV
• Dr. Jonathan Moncada, TNO
• Dr. Kristof Verbeeck, ArcelorMittal Belgium
• Dr. Jaap Bergwerff, Ketjen Corporation
• Dr. Luca Bondì – CINEA – European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency
• Dr. Nikolaos Tsongidis, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH)
• Dr. Monique Bernardes Figueirêdo, CIRCE – Centro Tecnológico
• Dr. Abdullah Z. Turan, TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center
• Chiara Monacchini, Università degli Studi di Genova

The session sparked many insightful discussions on market deployment, industrial challenges, policy frameworks, and pathways towards climate-neutral fuels. A big thank you to all speakers, panelists, and participants for sharing their expertise and perspectives!

Beyond the workshop, the projects also shared a joint booth in the exhibition area, creating valuable opportunities to connect with conference visitors, fellow projects, and stakeholders from across the bioenergy sector.

European Biomass Conference and Exhibition 2026 was a successful and inspiring event! We greatly value the productive collaboration with projects from the #SustaFuelsCluster and look forward to continuing our joint efforts and future activities together!
